Kevin Xavier (he/him) is an award-winning musician + composer + artist from Providence, Rhode Island. His creative practice investigates the anti-colonial preservation of Afro-Latin music + heritage + ways of being and aims to build multi-disciplinary experiences to rehearse for liberation, healing and justice.
As one of the lead composers and instrumentalists for The Haus of Glitter’s internationally acclaimed activist dance opera “The Historical Fantasy of Esek Hopkins,” Kevin joined the leadership team for The Haus of Glitter Performance Lab as the founding Touring Director + Technical Director to build national and international touring plans and justice-centered community engagement with activists, artists, culture-bearers and other historic sites that need intervention.
Kevin’s solo project, Corcovado, is an original composition and immersive multimedia performance + meditation that explores post-rock lineages of ambient + cinematic soundscapes, lived experiences of storms, as well as the ever encroaching danger of the climate crisis. Corcovado aims to inspire and steward action by organizing and engaging with impacted communities, empowered leaders and creative activists.
Influenced by Carlos Santana, John Coltrane, John Mayer and Vieux Farka Touré, Kevin works with the rhythms, melodies and song traditions of the Afro-Latin + Afro-Caribbean diaspora, including Latin, Blues, Jazz, and the global post-rock movement.
